“Smell the sea, feel the sky, let your soul and spirit fly!” Van Morrison
June has arrived, ushering in the sweetest of seasons – three wonderful months of summer with delicious warm breezes that call out to the playful spirit. I don’t think I know a single soul who doesn’t love and look forward to the summer. It is such a wonderful season that it has been the topic of songs, stories and poems since time immemorial.
Since June is the most popular month of the year for weddings summer seems to hold our dreams of love and romance, adventure and fun in its warm embrace. It’s the time of year when daydreaming is allowed, even encouraged. Our senses come to life and our imagination is set free to soar with the birds among the blue skies and puffy white clouds.
I think the word most associated with summer is freedom!
The freedom to shed clothes that confine. Freedom to explore new places and meet new people. Freedom to play with childlike abandon. The days are long, and the nights are intoxicating. In the immortal words of poet, Wallace Stevens, “The summer night is like a perfection of thought.”
If you do nothing more this summer, I pray that you can simply let go of limiting thoughts and learn how to engage freely with the beauty of the sea, sky, flowers, and the whole nature. Wherever you journey may your days, your nights and your soul be filled with the truest sense of freedom and joy.
